MAURUA-KI-TUA – the pursuit of success is a priority.

MAURUA - This is the name given to the Māori Immersion Pathway at Ōpōtiki College. This unique environment fosters Te Reo Māori me ōna Tikanga while promoting Māori achieving success as Māori. The name Maurua is taken from a unique style of Te Whakatōhea weaving.

MAURUA-KI-TUA -  We describe the words “Ki Tua” to mean “at the forefront” or “priority”.  Therefore, priority for Maurua-Ki-Tua is to uphold the values of whakapono, tino rangatiratanga and mana motuhake. Maurua-Ki-Tua is a House that is open for mainstream students to join if they wish to grow and develop their ability in Te Reo Māori and if they are willing to embrace the practices of the Ringatū Faith.
